5 Caregiving tips and Access To A Caregiving Journal

We want to celebrate YOU, the caregiver!

As a caregiver, what kind of tips do you share with others like you?

Caregiving can be a physically and mentally exhausting task. We are here with 5 tips to make your caregiving journey a little easier.

    1. One way we as caregivers can find an easy outlet is through writing in a journalYou do not have to be a writer to journal your inner thoughts or feelings! Journaling is a self-care practice caregivers can use to look inside themselves and provide an outlet instead of only using it to record information about their loved one they are caring for. One short entry can mean a lot!

What can you journal?

        • Experiences
        • Personal feelings
        • Insight
        • Source of Life Technologies and Home Care Providers has partnered with Rachael Wonderlin, Dementia By Day owner and consultant, to bring a new resource to caregivers – a Caregiver Journal. Download the Caregiver Journal.
    1.  Look for support from other caregivers like you. You are not alone in this journey. There are others who understand the physical and mental tasks that come into play caring for a loved one.
        • Join a support group
        • Have lunch with a friend
    2. Don't forget to take care of your own health. This means scheduling your own doctor appointments, planning time for exercise or mental breaks. You need to be strong enough to continue taking care of your loved one.
        • Take your vitamins
        • Get exercise — make it a priority for both your mental and physical well-being
        • Get regular check-ups and do not ignore possible symptoms of sickness
        • Watch for signs of depression
      4. Plan for the future. This means ensuring all your legal documents and medical information are accessible and available to you or any person ready to help in your stead. Create a binder of information, update bi-annually or as needed.

    • 5. Caregiving is one of the toughest jobs out there. Most often you as a caregiver are not prepared for this new or ongoing role. Give yourself credit where credit is due since you are doing the best job you can. It is one’s own choice whether to share your writings. Most caregivers use their journal as a space to share difficulties, vent, and feel uncensored.
