10 Things We Are Grateful for in 2021
Every year around this time we all begin to reflect on the past year. We know that gratitude is important, but it can be hard to slow down and step back. We’ve all felt the ups and downs of 2021. There are days that felt wonderful and brought joy. There are days that probably felt overwhelming and difficult. As a senior caregiver, homemaker, businessperson, or whatever hats you are wearing, best laid plans can go out the window. The simplest and most effective ways to evaluate and be inspired by our past experiences, positive or negative, is to turn our focus to gratitude. Gratitude requires reflection and stillness, two things that can be difficult in our busy, overstimulated lives.
No matter the path we have taken, the good or bad, turning our experiences into learning opportunities is a sure-fire way to learn from our past, give thanks, and gain insight to our future. The effects of gratitude can be important for our overall health as it brings a more positive mental state, peace of mind, and has the power to rewire our brains for the better.
“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because ALL things have contributed to your advancement, you should include ALL things in your gratitude.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Source of Life Technologies has had many inspirations and changes this year. We would like to share our list of 10 things we are grateful for in 2021.
- Friends and family
Without access to family, friends, and friends who are family, I’m not sure how we all would have felt through the year. Good relationships are the best predictor of happiness and we are grateful for those who add to ours. Near or far, technology advancements have made it possible to connect by video, text messaging or phone. We all continue to make adjustments and having our loved ones accessible have made us feel connected rather than isolated.
- A supportive community of co-workers
There are so many things to be thankful for this year but being thankful for our growing company and culture is significant. Experiences this year have made us grateful to have a place where we can safely work, connect, and enjoy our ever-evolving work family. A good team helps the business prosper and grow.
- Healthy body and peaceful mind
It is important to really stop and be grateful for the small things in life we take for granted. We have learned in the past couple years specifically we are not invincible. It is important to treat our bodies well and be proactive in in our health.
- A culture of thankfulness
As our industry struggles to address the crisis of burnout, some caregivers and workers, including us, have turned to an innovative remedy: gratitude. Gratitude helps us cope with stressful experiences by reminding us what is positive in our lives in the midst of suffering. We are here to help others buffer their struggles by bringing peace of mind in healthcare and also work together in appreciation of one another by simply posting words of encouragement and thanks to each other in breakrooms, on social media and in our communication apps. We have received much more positive feedback by offering feedback!
- Healthcare Industry Spotlighting
While we may have thought 2021 would have brought respite for our caregivers, the reality was more the opposite. One silver lining from this year in the healthcare industry is caregivers have never been in the spotlight as they have been this year. Paid and unpaid caregivers, lawmakers, and more, are aware of the challenges and opportunities in the healthcare industry and are looking to make positive advancements in technology, in home care, and in availability to services.
- Continued education
As in business and healthcare, education doesn’t stop after graduation. In many ways, education begins the minute you land your first job and requires ongoing certifications and development. The opportunity to learn each day from patients, clients, co-workers and the industry is something unique and should be embraced. We are so grateful for the opportunities to engage in meaningful ways to enhance our minds so we can bring the best services and products to our customers.
- Failures
This is a good one, right? We’ve all had our fair share. Done right though, failures are a sign of ambition and strength. We are grateful for the ability to have experiences, rewrite chapters, and develop the character to learn from our happenings.
- Technology
Lockdowns or distance can keep us apart but technologies in the form of video, text messaging and phone calls keep us in touch and up to date. From fall prevention strategies, remote patient monitoring and caregiver scheduling, technology is at the forefront for easy to access patient centered care. As pioneers of this tech driven movement, Source of Life Technologies is excited to be a part of bringing peace of mind through continued innovation.
- Empathy
The ability to be compassionate with others in our lives both personally and professionally assists in making connections. So much of this has historically been brought only into the physical care provided to others. We recognize at SOLT that a team environment is the key to success and being aware of the feelings and needs of not only those we serve, but of each other, is of great importance.
- Producing work that helps and serves others!
Make a conscious effort to focus on the people, situations, and things that make your life better. Getting into a habit of noticing and being thankful for the good things (small or big) improves our overall attitude and reduces stress.
